Rural Tourism Congress in Riga

The International Rural Tourism Workshop CHANGING CONCEPTS FOR QUALITY took place on June 9, 2010 in Riga, Latvia, organized jointly by the Latvian Country Tourism Association "Lauku celotajs" and EuroGites - "The European Federation of Farm and Village Tourism". The workshop was focused on practical solutions and initiatives under three main topics: Situation - Innovation - Local Values.
26 professional organizations from 20 European countries, including the host country, Latvia, attended the workshop. Practical experiences of rural tourism organizations were presented, allowing all participants to learn about changes occurring in the tourism sector of the participating countries. There were case studies of successful projects and new ideas. Discussions took place about the current needs of rural tourism.
Workshop participants discussed the changes that offer good potential for the future. Panelists talked about innovative approaches to rural tourism product development, marketing and promotion. Also discussed were the best ways to include local stakeholders such as municipalities and wider communities.
